another journey home
I love long bus rides. It is during these times that my mind gets a break from all the hustle of a busy lifestyle. My mind is allowed to go into deep thought, pondering about many issues I might not have thiught about otherwise. Trying to beat the rigours of a jam-packed study schedule has in fact clogged my creative pores littered throughout my skull that is supposedly filled with intellect. Ah~ I shall begin soon, before my thinking processes come to a halt, common to many students trying to forcibly produce a structured and well-balanced GP essay.
The past week was indeed an exciting one. I finally received all of my preliminary exam results. They’re certainly not the results that I desire, but one thing for sure was it was the best I ever had for all the exams I’ve had in hcjc. My CT told us that most people graduate with at least 3A’s for their A-levels; I’m not resting on my laurels simply because it seems like a given that everyone will achieve those results! I set out with a goal, a target, and I’m still not giving up even I’ve not achieved the short-term targets that I’ve set. A-levels: once in a lifetime… it is one of the launchpads that’ll get us into university, for those who wish to choose the tertiary education path.
Thankful. No word can better describe my feelings for the fruit of my one month labour. Certainly, I thought I could’ve achieved more with the amount of time invested into study but the exam scripts that I received taught me invaluable lessons still. You reap what you sow, huh? Time and again, I’ve succumbed to the sin of poor time management during the examination. This leads to another problem, rushing my work which potentially led to many careless mistakes. Although this may be true for my science subjects, my essays that were rushed due to time constraint scored the best! Call it pure luck. In singapore, we say, “ Heng ar!”
And so, now I’m more confident of obtaining a good projected score from my tutors for my university applications. I’ve completed two so far and I hope to finish all these paperwork before the study break. Minimum distractions please! The last 3 weeks will be the most crucial to finalise my study akin to completing military training and going for war.
Distractions with positive spillover effects, a.k.a. externalities for those who are familiar with the term, are most welcome. One of two games of DotA keeps me in the mood and desire to meet my target so that I can go for my next game. A singles or doubles badminton duel also helps release those happy hormones called endorphines to keep me from going insane. I really enjoy my regular games with the hwachong asean ‘brothers and sisters’ and also with some really nice buddies in hostel. Hmmm, I guess we’re more into badminton now that we play in the chinese high hall. I hope the boarding school can come up with a proper booking system, or help direct us to the chinese high pe dept. badminton’s a good sport, and it’s an asian favorite too! Playing badminton helps with squash too, vice versa…haha.
Till today, nothing can displace music as my no.1 favourite distraction of all time. Music creates a very magical experience for me. It can act as the propellant for me to continue toiling for long hours, it has superb capabilities of relieving stress and anxiety. Most importantly, music has provided me a platform for creative and emotional expression and interpretation. It runs in my blood already now that there is no day where I subscribe to less than an hour’s worth of music. A song can do extremes for me, either implants in me the fighting spirit of a bloodthirsty warrior, or it could make my heart feel like crying. In other words, music changed my life - in friendship and in worship.
Greatest discovery of the week – X-Japan
Their songs are the loveliest. It has been some time since I actually heard a song that moved me so much so that I felt like crying. Although the band initially played metal-rock songs, their later albums contain the most beautiful love songs EVER. Here’s my 6 favorite songs from them:
- Tears
- Say Anything
- Forever Love
- Endless Rain
- Longing
- I’ll be your love
Glad to have shared these with a fellow music lover, Spread the love!
This is such a disorganised yet happy post. I shall explore my darker thoughts another day. Buttered crabs and prawns with salted egg-yolk coming my way!
P/s: anyone who has the CDs for ‘my sassy girl’ and ‘windstruck’ could you please lend them to me?! =)
